Nutrition

At Learning Avenues Child Care Centre and Kindergarten we believe in educating children to eat wisely and moderately. Nutrition is important at every age. Children need proper nutrients to be healthy and strong. Nutrition for children can also help establish a foundation for healthy eating habits and nutritional knowledge that your child can apply throughout life.

Healthy eating is essential for your child’s good health, growth, and development. Healthy eating in childhood means they will have less chance of developing chronic diseases. It will also mean they feel better, look better, and enjoy life more. Childhood nutrition refers to the dietary needs of healthy children aged 2 years through 11 years of age, A sound eating routine helps younger children develop and learn.

As members of the Nutrition Australia, we value the importance of providing every child their nutritional needs throughout the day. We provide a wonderful daily menu which rotates through the seasons using fresh ingredients and we strive to use local produce as much as possible. With our on-site cook preparing our delicious meals daily we have the ability to cater for allergies, intolerances or specific needs. We also have a beautiful garden which grows a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables which we can source on-site.

Different foods provide different nutrition’s, so here at The Discovery Garden we will make sure your child gets a mixed variety of fruits and vegetables.

We will be educating the children on what nutrition is by providing these strategies:

  1. Show kids what “eating right” looks like. Explain that they should fill half their plate with fruits and veggies that have nutrients that will help their bodies grow.
  2. Avoid calling foods “good” or “bad.” Kids should learn that all foods have a place in their diet.
  3. Talking about portion sizes.

Our Aim

Our aim is to inform families about foods that their children are eating, and talk to families about sensitive food issues, we provide an app which monitors the food intake of your child/children’s and how much or little they had so you are fully aware.

Our staff will be role modelling healthy eating throughout the day to all the children. Our staff will be promoting and encouraging children to eat more fruit and vegetables, choose water as a drink, and have an hour or more physical activity each day.

Our intent is to achieve being teachers by more effectively applying present knowledge and methods to policies and programmes relevant to nutrition. By working together we become more effective in teaching children and families about the knowledge of being members of Nutrition Australia
